A BREAKDOWN OF WHAT IT TAKES TO STUDY IN CANADA

Studying in Canada is often chosen for the internationally recognized qualifications that are offered in the Canadian universities. Canada as an international study destination is known for being affordable and for offering healthy and safe communities rich with diversity. Abundant research opportunities in an innovative environment is a Canadian trademark. There are lots of things to do in your downtime as well as soaking up the arts and culture, shopping in the big cities, enjoying the outdoors, camping and hiking in summer and skiing and skating in winter. Canada is proudly multicultural which means that there is a large variety of global cuisines on offer. Spectator sports are plentiful in Canada, especially in winter and are a common pastime for Canadian students.

The cost of studying in Canada can vary. There are also different type of options available when studying in Canada. From High Schools to Colleges and Amazing Universities.

 To break down all three options with Approximate tuition listed at a per-year fee:
  • High School’s – Approximately between CAD 8,000 and CAD 14,000
  • College and vocational School in Canada –  Approximately between CAD 10,000 and CAD 18,000
  • University in Canada –  Approximately between CAD 12,000 and CAD 22,000
Cost of living can vary depending on the province, however, on average it is approximately CAD 12,000 per year.

To study in Canada you will require a study permit. A study permit is a document which is issued by the Canadian government that allows foreign nationals to study at designated learning institutions (DLI) in Canada. Most foreign nationals need a study permit to study in Canada. Make sure you have all the documents you need before you apply. You should apply before you travel to Canada.

Your study permit is not a visa. It doesn’t let you enter Canada. You may also need a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA). If your study permit is approved you will be issued one so you can travel to Canada.

Can you go back home while studying?

Yes. If you leave Canada during your studies, you may need to show proof you’re enrolled in your school when you return to Canada.

If you have a visitor visa or an electronic travel authorization (eTA), it must still be valid when you return to Canada.

  • proof of identity
  • proof of financial support

  • a custodian declaration (minors only)

Work While you Study:

You may work part-time in Canada for up to 20 hours per week so long as you meet the eligibility requirements

  • you’re a full-time student at a designated learning institution (DLI)
  • you’re enrolled in a post-secondary academic, vocational or professional training program or your study program is at least 6 months long and leads to a degree, diploma or certificate
  • you’ve started studying
  • you have a Social Insurance Number (SIN)

Work in Canada after you graduate:

Once you have completed your studies and studied a program for more than two years you may be eligible for post-study work.
