IE Abroad in collaboration with All Rounder Management Solutions hosted a Cricket Talent Identification Program for high school students across Cape Town for Loughborough University.

A select group of talented cricketers who have represented their schools’ first teams and their provinces participated in a day of activities to showcase their talents and to learn more about Loughborough University.

Alicia Butterfield, International Officer at Loughborough, and Russell Cobb, Head Coach for Performance Cricket at Loughborough, chatted to the boys via Zoom link at the All Rounder Cricket Academy indoor centre to tell them about all of the academic and sporting opportunities at Loughborough. The boys introduced themselves to Alicia and Russell and then they were off to the cricket nets to display their batting and bowling talent and to participate in a fielding obstacle course.

Live streaming allowed Russell and Alicia to feel that they were with us here in Cape Town. Innovative solutions to the COVID crisis! The buzz and excitement were palpable as these boys start to see the possibilities for international education and an international university cricketing career. The day ended with an inspirational talk by Alan Dawson, former Protea bowler, on the importance of having an education to fall back on as an elite sportsperson.
